Blog ni dah lama menyepi. Disebabkan masalah kesihatan, banyak perkara yang dah berlaku dan akan berlaku. Blog ini akan dikekalkan, dan akan diupdate nanti.

Nama blog pon akan ditukar, bukan lagi life in Sydney, tapi life after Sydney. Tapi URL blog ni akan kekal ler.

A visit to Canberra ACT

Last Saturday, we drove to Canberra ACT for two days weekend gateaway. It was an unforgettable holiday since this was the first time we drove more than 4 hours (290 km++) here in Australia. The journey was quite tiring but every moment was worth treasured .

Isnin lepas, 23 Feb 2009 genap lah 30 tahun isteri ku melihat dunia. Syukur Alhamdulillah, dipanjatkan syukur ke hadhirat Ilahi kerana kami dipertemukan dan dapat bersama hingga ke hari ini.

Sebak, kerana kali ini tiada sambutan meriah yang dapat dipersembahkan. Hidup di perantauan cukup menguji kesabaran kita sekeluarga. Tiada kek untuk ditiup, tiada hadiah untuk diberikan, tiada apa yang dapat dipersembahkan... cuma... janji diriku dan anak-anak yang dirimu tidak akan dipersiakan. Janji ikatan kekeluargaan kita semua akan berkekalan hingga ke akhir hayat.

Sedih, apabila melihat air mata berlinangan di hari bahagiamu. Sedih apabila mengenangkan keluarga jauh di tanah air. Sedih melihatkan rakan-rakan seperjuangan yang lain tiada di sisi. Namun, sedih itu digantikan dengan gelak ketawa Iman Raziq dan Iman Nuryasmin. Sedih itu digantikan dengan belaian manja dariku untukmu.

Bangga, melihatkan dirimu tabah di perantauan. Bangga apabila melihat anak-anak gembira di sisi mu. Bangga melihatkan dirimu gagah meneruskan hidup di kala kesusahan dan kepayahan serta kesunyian hidup di bumi asing.

Tiada apa yang dapat diucapkan, melainkan Selamat Hari Jadi untukmu Isteri ku dan ibu kepada anak-anak ku...

Jalan-jalan cari kanggaroo

Salam semua. Semalam (Sabtu) macam biasa rutin setiap minggu, bangun pagi masak, basuh baju dan sidai baju. Tiba-tiba, Iman Nuryasmin nyanyi lagu "Welcome to the zoo", Iman Raziq plak balas you are a kanggaroo. Hahaha... kesian plak kat diorang.

So, without any planning, I asked Sal, Iman n Yasmin to dress up and get ready cause we are going to meet the kanggaroo baby. Yeay!!! So, walaupun keadaan cuaca yang panas melampau, kitorang semua pun bertolak ke Featherdale Wilflife Park. Next guest after this, get ready to feed the kanggaroos. Daaa...

Sebenaqnye ni la first time teman kene tag. Tak berapa paham perihal tag mengetag nih. Tapi untuk membuang masa teman sekejap, nak bagi defrag sikit otak ni yang dah tak berapa betul, teman jawabla tag ni ek... tenkiu tu mr nabil.

Dah dekat setahun dengar lagu Anuar Zain je sebab tu je keset yang ade untuk dipasang dalam kereta. Pagi tadi lepas hantar Iman sekolah dengar lagu 'I'm the lucky one'. Lagu ni banyak kenangan terutama masa angah (adik sal) ngan achik datang bercuti kat sini. Sampai Iman pon cakap ni lagu pak ngah ni.

Lawan boling

Sabtu lepas, persatuan postgrad kat sini buat lawan bowling. Teringat masa zaman black tutor dulu, selalu main bowling time opis hour. hehe...

Anyway, me & Sal satu pasukan dengan Insan & Lia. Alhamdulillah, kitorang berjaya juga menduduki tempat ketiga berpasukan keseluruhan. Dalam acara individu pulak, hehe... bukan lah antara 3 terbaik, kalau tak dah tentu dah dapat hadiah ye tak. Namun, apa yang membanggakan, Iman Nuryasmin berjaya menjadi juara bagi kategori kanak-kanak dengan jatuhan pin sebanyak 109 gitu. Iman Raziq yang turut bertanding, walaupun berjaya mendapat 100 jatuhan pin, namun hanya mendapat hadiah saguhati je. Kategori kanak-kanak main satu game je, itupun pakai ramp.

Lepas main bowling, pegi makan kat 'Taste of Thai'. Tapi tak lalu sangat makan sebab banyak minum air jer. Panas beb... tengah summer nih, berpeluh tak hingat punye. Time panas kat sini tak lalu sangat makan, tapi kene minum air banyak. Iman Raziq ngan Iman Nuryasmin banyak la minum air putih, tapi mak ayahnye, banyak minum air berkarbonat gitu. Letak pulak ais... perghhh nikmatnye.

Sebulan menyepi

Alhamdulillah, sebulan bercuti di Malaysia merupakan tempoh yang paling bermakna sepanjang hidup di Sydney ni. Walaupun banyak keje yang nak kene buat (supervisor bagi le ni) namun cuti tetap cuti. Kesudahannya satu keroje pon tak terusik. Komputer lagi la, sebulan cuti, sebulan tutup komputer. Hehehe... Kepada kawan-kawan, sori la ek sebab tak update-update blog nih.

Banyak aktiviti yang kitorang buat. Tapi yang paling penting, ini lah masa untuk bersama dengan yang tersayang. Tahniah kepada adik Sal (Hasnulhadi) sebab melangsungkan perkahwinan dengan gadis pilihannya (Sham Zailina).

Ni ada la sikit gambar-gambar sepanjang percutian di Malaysia... Tak banyak sebab tengah bergembira sangat, gambar pon lupe ambik.

A week before departure

Entry kali ni nak cite pasal aktiviti yang kitorang buat seminggu sebelum pulang bercuti. Tak dapat nak buat research sangat sebab kepala bile makan pon terasa macam tengah makan kat Sate Kajang Samuri, Seafood kat Tanjung Lumpur... Kalau tengah tengok TV pon rase cam tengah tengok ASTRO. Parah tu... memang tepat masanye kitorang balik bercuti. Ni antara aktiviti yang kitorang buat sepanjang cuti hujung minggu kat sini...

Ni gamba masa tengah berjalan-jalan kat Fox Studio. Kalau ikut kata wikipedia: Fox Studios Australia is a major movie studio located in Sydney, Australia, occupying the site of the former Sydney Showground at Moore Park. Cam hebat je bunyinye kan...

Balik dari Fox Studio, berjalan pulak ke Watson Bay. Ingat nak jalan-jalan je, tapi disebabkan cuaca agak sejuk tak sejuk sangat, panas tak panas sangat, terus Iman Raziq dengan Iman Nuryasmin terbukak baju diorang sendirik dan berlari-lari ke tepian pantai. Hehe... Nyesal tak bawak baju mandi sekali, terpaksa la tengok diorang je mandi.

Hari Ahad, kitorang berehat sambil berpiknik kat Centennial Park. Ramai sungguh orang hari ni. Mungkin sebab cuaca amat sesuai untuk berpiknik dan disebabkan nak masuk bulan Krismas ni, ramai yang dah bercuti.

Aktiviti satu minggu

Disebabkan kekurangan masa untuk mengupdate blog nih (malas pun ade sebenarnye, hoho...), ni la cerita satu minggu yang dah berlaku kat sini.

Firstly, menyambut kedatangan tetamu dari Dunedin, sapa lagi iye... So, dapat la jugak bawak berjalan sikit-sikit kat area Sydney ni. Nak pergi jauh sikit, masa pulak takde. But what important is that my kids had lots of fun together with them, especially uncle Munir. These are some of the pictures taken while having some good times with our guests.

Secondly, last Sunday we went to Aimee's birthday party. Aimee is the daughter of Heike, Yasmin's principal at Hippo's Playschool. What suprising is that, they only invited Aimee's closest friends only. Meaning, anak aku kawan baik ngan anak omputih la weh... Since Heike is originally from Germany, we noticed that kebanyakan yang datang pon orang German. Di sebabkan bapak si Yasmin ni pakai baju Wallabees, as I step into the venue, one of the kids said to me, Wallabies is suck. Wallllaaaweeeh... Kuang hajaq punye budak. Aku pakai baju dia je, bukan sokong pon. So, again the kids had lots of fun.

Newtown festival 2008

Hari minggu, kami sekeluarga berjalan ke Newtown. Mak aihhh... lautan manusia. Ini disebabkan Newton sedang mengadakan "Newtown Festival 2008" sempena 30 tahun kewujudannya. Kalau ikut kata emcee nye, jumlah pengunjung maybe more than 200,000. Kalau tolak kami berempat, takde la sampai 200,000 ye tak. hehe...

Apapun, kids enjoyed the most since ade huge kids fun area. Tapi kene hengat juge, they also provided more than 259++ stalls that sell soo many foods (banyak jugak halal food), souvenier, craft, dan lain-lain. Kire terluang la jugak masa hujung minggu dengan anak-anak. Teringat kat Malaysia dulu pun ade gak pesta macam ni kat Stadium Bukit Jalil. Okiess...

Alhamdulillah, annual review teman dah lepas. Semuanya berlaku hari Selasa lepas (4/11/08). Terima kasih kepada semua, terutama keluarga dan kawan-kawan yang memberi semangat dan perangsang kepada saya dan keluarga di sini.

Apapun, ni baru tahun pertama kami di perantauan. InsyaAllah, ada lebih kurang 3 tahun je lagi untuk menyiapkan PhD kami di sini. Buat kawan-kawan yang baru memulakan pengajian PhD, Salwati di Jerman, Azri di Swiss, Farid di New Zealand, Noris di UK, dan buat sume senior (jgn mare ek) yang terlebih dulu sambung PhD, semoga berjaya. Sama-sama la kita berjuang iye. Semangat cakap pasal PhD ni sebab baru lepas lulus review. Biasak ar.

Cite baru takde cume tak saba nak menyambut Raya Haji tahun ni di Malaysia, InsyaAllah...

Jamuan AidilFitri MyPSA 2008

Walaupun Syawal 1429H hampir sampai ke penghujungnya, namun sambutan AidilFitri tetap disambut dengan penuh kemeriahan, terutamanya bagi semua warga Persatuan Pelajar Postgrad Malaysia dan keluarga di Sydney.

Tanggal 25 Oktober 2008, once again our humble home was selected to be the host for this biggest event of the year, "Majlis Jamuan AidilFitri MyPSA 2008".

The foods were absolutely tempting. The main dish was BBQ. Most of the guesses also came with pot lucks. There were soooo many Malaysian food that day. Rugi hangpa tak datang weh. Well, as usual Sal served her famous Sup Tulang Gear Box, with bihun. Jangan jeles iye. Alhamdulillah, habis licin semuanya. Just look at these pictures of rezeqi. Selera you...

One of the memorable moment on that day was we managed to gather all 5 members of FSKTM tutors who further studies here in Sydney. Sapa lagi kalau bukan dengan KA, Faizah dan Masnida. Hopefully that all of us can succesfully finish our PhD here. Amiiinnnn...

Siput sedut Sydney

Today, Sydney's wheather is so hot, and so we decided to go for a swim at Malabar big sea pool. We just swam for a while, though... due to the very unexpected cold sea temperature...It's freaking freezing, despite of the hot wheather!!! Sungguh tak sesuaiiiii!

Just as we were getting ready to go home, we saw two Indonesian people who looked like they were searching for something in the water just by the seaside. So we went to them and to our surprise, there goes the land of siput sedut..hahahahaha! They were everywhere and the first thing popped out of my head was I got to take them home and cook them into delicious lemak cili api ;-) It's been a year since I had my last siput sedut masak lemak cili api. So without thinking any further, I just grabbed a plastic bag from our picnic bag (which was supposed to be used for our wet clothes) and started 'collecting'! And the Indonesians? Hahaha...they must had think that they should spare some for us, that they left right away when they realized we spotted them. Thanks anyway, guys!

So, this is how the precioussssss look like.. taraaaa....!!! (terasa tersangatla miracle nyer...maklumla, kat sini mana ada org jual siput sedut? omputih mana makan? Puas kitorang belek nak make sure this is the real siput sedut. Belek punye belek, finally we came to our conclusion...betul la ni, since rupa dia sah sebijik macam yang jual kat pasar borong Selangor tu. Hahahaha...

Later that night, we had siput sedut masak lemak cili api for dinner. Ummmph!!! And the best part is, we picked them out ourselves, totally FOC!

On the first and second Syawal, many of our friends came to beraya at our humble house ;-) Its been a little busy preparing all the foods and entertaining guests, but its really worthy. Antara menu yang disediakan termasuklah nasi himpit, kuah lodeh, sambal sotong, sup tulang, spaghetti bolognaise, kek lapis Indo, air sirap laici dan kuih-muih raya yang diimport dari Malaysia (Thanks to angah and achik for bringing the delicious kuih-muih from Malaysia). 1 Syawal 1429H, kami sekeluarga ke Malaysia Hall, untuk bersembahyang aidilfitri berjemaah. We arrived a little bit late but still manged to perform the prayer. There is not much things to say since these pictures speak louder than words. Quite number of pictures were taken but since I'm not really a good photographer, hehe... Syukur Alhamdulillah kerana masih diberi peluang untuk menyambut Ramadhan dan Syawal 1429H pada tahun ini. Walaupun jauh di perantauan, Syawal tetap disambut dengan penuh ceria (walaupun sebak rindukan keluarga, sedara-mara dan sahabat-handai di tanah air). Pagi 1 syawal, kami bersiap awal untuk sembahyang aidilfitri di Malaysia Hall. Suasana pagi teramat syahdu, mengenangkan keluarga yang jauh di mata. Namun senyuman tetap terpahat di wajah, apabila melihat Iman Raziq dan Iman Nuryasmin bergelak ketawa, bersuka ria dan menyanyi lagu raya (ikut lagu raya yang di pasang di komputer). Sebelum ke Malaysia Hall, kami sekeluarga sempat bergambar dan bermaaf-maafan. Walaupun tiada kemaafan yang perlu dipohon oleh isteriku, namun air mata tetap mengalir memohon ampun dan maaf. Terima kasih kepada Pak Ngah (Fitri), sebab hadiahkan kami sekeluarga sepasang baju melayu/kurung yang sangat indah dan cantik.

Sorry for not updating the blog for quite a long time. Lot of things to story, yet just a little time can be spent and the biggest losers of all... gambar takdak ar. Dah lama camera tersimpan dalam laci. So, bile gambar takdak, maleh la nak upate blog ni. But suddenly, this afternoon Sal bumped into her old friend at Hippo Play School, and she let us know that many of their friends are actually wondering why our blog is not up to date. He he... so kene le update.

So, first thing first, this is the story of our son, Iman Raziq. Well, I think everybody knows that he is studying in the Kindergarten at Kensington Public School. Last month, we went there for a half yearly report. Macam amek report card la ni. Alhamdulillah, his teacher (Ms. Robinson) told us that Iman has improved a lot. He can now read, understand and write English very good. We are really happy to hear about that. And what makes us proud even more when as the youngest of all in the school, Iman's achievement is amazingly much better than some of the others..Yeah, Hooray!!! Belah kanan ni gamba Iman dengan cikgu kesayangannya... pergh

Dan lagi satu, last month we celebrate Iman's 5th birthday. Ada la buat majlis makan-makan. Antara jemputan yang hadir termasukla Pengarah MSDA, dan pegawai-pegawai konsulat. We've also invited some of our friends, but due to the limited spaces and budgets, sori la ek, tak semua kitorang dapat jemput.

Next, our daughter, Iman Nuryasmin. Well, instead of leaving her under our friend's care during the day, we've decided to send her to Hippo's Play School, instead. This school is located in Botany, next suburb after Mascot. I managed to get good rate (usual rate is au$70 per day), lepas merayu jugak la. Alhamdulillah, Yasmin pun dah suka pegi school.
Inilah gamba anak dara ambo. Sapa la bakal menantu ambo nanti iye en. Farid Jaafar...ehem.. Cakap omputih pun dah makin laju nih..mahal, mahal!hahahahah!

Sal, she just moved to a new office building. Building ala2 korporat gitu... bukan keparat tau! Sudah semestinya, tidak ade langsung ciri2 school..macam pegi keje pun ade jugak... hehehe... Dia tgh happy tu... mana taknye, sampai je kat office dia pagi tadi, ade la plak hadiah atas meja... jeng jeng jeng! hadiah tak la mahal, tapi sape yang bagi tu yang mahal! haaaa... Me, emmm... tade cite baru. Cuma last week, I shaved my hair all by myself. Just by using pisau cukur, I managed to botakkan kepala, sebab baru teringat kene baya naza sebab berjaya menamatkan pengajian master yang lepas. Tapi amek masa sejam juga ler. Punye la tak nak pg kedai, mahal tuuu...AU$15 sekali potong. Harga ni kalau kat Msia dah buleh dapat cuci ngan urut sekali. Hehe... anyway, licin beb. InsyaAllah, lepas ni ada juga cite-cite nak biar rambut tumbuh panjang. Teringat masa zaman muda-muda dulu...

Oh ya, satu lagi peristiwa bersejarah, I've changed my supervisor. Sebabnya, supervisor yang lama tu terlalu sibuk, takde masa untuk menyupervise dan tajuk yang diberi juga agak terlampau kecabarannya. So, my current supervisor is Dr. Hui Wu, cukup baik dan beliau banyak membantu. In just less than a month, he already helped me to get a problem to solve. Alhamdulillah.. harap sumanyer will go smooth as planned! Aminnnnn...

So, until next time... selamat menyambut Ramadhan. Dan tak lupa, selamat menyambut kemerdekaan Malaysia yang ke-51. Merdeka... merdeka... merdeka...!

That morning, my house was chosen as the host for one of the biggest event organized by MyPSA this year, the visit from ... cube teka sape?

Even tough Sal is not feeling very well, she got flu + sinus + asthma + fever + cough, she still did her best to prepare her specialty, sup tulang. Thanks darling...

And for the kids, well they enjoyed so many food since people who came in did bring pot luck. Yummy... such a tiring day and busy weekend since it was the final exam week. Wish me luck in my exam...

30th anniversary

21st May 1978, at 8.30 am, a baby boy was born in HKL and was given a name Sazly by his beloved father, Anuar. Yesterday, 30 years later, that baby is now a father of two gorgeous kids (a smart, handsome son and a beautiful daughter) and a loving husband to the most prettiest women ever found in this planet, Salfarina.

His father, Anuar and his mother, Su Fatimah, have always been so proud of him. Just before he came here to Australia, they told him that they never had this thought that he will become the first in the family to pursue a PhD and that never imagine this little grubby face boy will make his family feel so proud of him as he is today.

Only last night, this boy couldn't control his tears from coursing down his cheeks. He never left his family for a period of more than a month. But now, he hasn't seen them for more than 7 months. All this while, they only communicate through phone calls . It was his 30th birthday yesterday, celebrated first time in his life without having the family or friends around.

However, he got his very own family now. They still celebrated the day together with full of joys, and laughters, still sang him the birthday song although deep inside his heart he really misses his parents so much. But yet, he feels so grateful, that God has given him chance to live until today, and the chance to gain so many successes in his life. With all of his dearest by his side, who perfectly understands and supports him.

Yesterday, he blew a cake, with one hope, with one wish... A promise to take care of his family, including his parents, no matter what, no matter how, and to make sure that everybody felt so proud of him. Happy 30th birthday to me...

A Trip to Blue Mountain

Salam ceria...

Sabtu lepas (17/5/08), me and my family had a day trip to one of the most beautiful and historical place in NSW, so called the Blue Mountain. Well, it was an adhoc move since we wanted to escape from all the workloads in the whole week.

We started our day as early as 6 am and prepared the meal for the trip. Sal made the delicious sardine sandwiches, jagung bakar and daging burger. The one hour journey began with a train ride from Sydney Central to a town called Blacktown. Kene turun kat Blacktown sebab jalan keretapi tgh direpair, so kene naik bas la plak. Know what, a journey from Blacktown to Katoomba (Blue Mountain) takes about 1 and a half hour. Mak aihh... lenguh badan weh. But as soon as we reached Katoomba, we were so amazed with the scenic views of the town. Ditambah pulak dengan kesejukan cuaca.... brrrrrr... brrrrr...kejang!

To ease our visits and sightseeing activity, we took an explorer bus that goes around blue mountain in every half and hour. Well actually the explorer bus is a double decker bus, which was specially brought from London to here. Dapat la jugak naik, takde la hebat mana pun, best lagi bas mini/rapidfire kat Malaysia... :-)

The most beautiful attraction here is a place called "three sisters". Ada sejarah dia, tapi tak reti nak cite...

As you all can see, there is not so many pictures of myself taken, since I was the cameraman. Lagipun, gambar orang dah kurus memang selalu tunjuk last-last. Ni la klimaks dia... Well everybody, see you in my next entry. Love always...

Mmmmm... lama tak update blog ni. So many stories to tell, yet so few time can be spend on this blog. huhu...

What had happen to us in this couple of weeks? Well, I can only summarize it and sorry cause there is no new picture in it. Hopefully I can put some picture in next entry.

New place to stay
We have moved to a new house which cost us a lot more cheaper (from $360/week to $260/week) and a lot more comfortable (3rd floor apartment to single story house). So, this is our new address:

Research progress
I might have some problems doing research since I take 3 courses this semester. So, most of my study time is given on the courses rather than research, which obviously not a good idea when doing a PhD. My supervisor had warn me about my lack of progress in doing research. Haiyaaaa... Sudahla kelas banyak assignment.
As for Sal's, she had a very good progress in research. Yesterday she was having a committee presentation and Prof. Ross Jeffry said that she is in the right track and having a very good progress. Emmm... good for her.

Badminton Tournament
A very good news, at least for me. Last Sunday was the final day of Badminton Tournament in UNSW. Well, the tournament is just opened for the Malaysian student/staff/PR here in Sydney. Guess what, me and my partner (Farid - bukan Farid Jaafar yang dirindui) had won the overall champion of mens double. Alhamdulillah... at least I know that I'm good at something.

Weight management
Another good news for me. I managed to reduce my weight since the first day I came here. My weight was 105 kg when I step my foot here in Sydney. Now, based from the yesterday reading, it is only 85 kg. Mak aihhh... ini mesti banyak makan hati buat research... Apapun, It's good to know that I've achieved something here, hehehe...

Emmmm... rasenye tu je la dulu kot. We usually went to bed around 10 pm everyday since it's quite cold at night. Even Sal, Iman and Yasmin got a flue and warm fever. Semoga cepat sembuh yek manja-manja papa...

Farewell to Hasnul Hadi and Hasnul Huari

Salam,

I know that its been a long time since I did my last post. It has been started to be the busiest day of my life, with all the classes, tutorials, assignments, papers to read, presentation, bla... bla... bla...

But what is the saddest thing is that, my brother in law, Hasnul Huari who has been staying with us for almost 3 months have to go back to Malaysia. Well, what can I say about him other than he has been so good while staying with us. He made our house so cheerful, with all the laughter and he really know how to play with Iman Raziq and Iman Nuryasmin. He got quite a good result in the SPM and we hope that he can further his study in the future. Really miss him especially for the kids. Now I have to bring them to playground every day instead of him... hehe...

Hasnul Huari flew back with his brother, Hasnul Hadi who came to visit us for a week with his girl friend, cikgu Sham. Even tough they were staying here for just a week, but the impact is so big. They really made us miss them so much. Man, I don't know what to say. People always come to our place and stay, and we have to suffer missing them after send them back to airport. Still waiting for our time when somebody will send us to airport to fly back to Malaysia. Hopefully, by the end of this year, if we have extra money then we can go for a month holiday in Malaysia.

To all our friends and relatives out there, if you have extra money and want to come for a holiday here, don't worry about the place to stay since we accept you with open arms. Stay here for as long as your holiday. Cheers...

Jangkitan virus dan badminton tournament...

Last week, Sal's was infected with a virus. She got a fever and sinus. Alhamdulillah, she's getting better now. Unfortunately, the virus get infected to the whole family. Yesterday (Friday), I got a fever, and coughing all day long. I took 2 pills of panadol, 3 times daily and hopefully its getting better before Sunday because there is a badminton tournament on Sunday. Well, as I'm writing this post, it's getting better now. Our kids, Iman Raziq and Iman Nuryasmin, they were so strong. Alhamdulillah syukur nikmat, they both free from virus infection, only got a flu. it's maybe because the weather is getting so cold, since its going to be Autumn... Sorry to my honey and the kids, I'm not well enough to bring you anywhere this weekends. Dok umah je la ek...

Oh! about the badminton tournament. I am the chairman of badminton league tournament summer 2008 here. FYI, we (Malaysian students, staffs, and PRs) play badminton here on UNSW Gym every Sunday from 11-1pm. Ustaz Zuhir gives the idea for organizing the badminton tournament. Me, who had some experienced in organizing the tournament, especially Liga Badminton FSKTM, volunteered to organized. Well the format is almost the same (main liga juge) but with some adjustment. There were 4 categories this time for all the players compete for the prizes. There are overall champion, plate, bowl and spoon categories. The tournament will start this Sunday. Wah... kan best kalau ade Azlan Ahmad, Azrul Hazri, Alfian, KTW, Farid, Nabil, Azri and everybody else... Selalu kalau buat tournament atau practice, korang semua mesti ade. uhuk...

Happy 29th birthday..

23rd February 2008, the day that me and the kids celebrate Sal's 29th birthday. Well, just like how we celebrated Iman Nuryasmin's birthday, there was no party or friends invited. We just bought a birthday cake for her and we tried to celebrate semeriah yang boleh as a family. So funny that I bought a birthday cake with Bob the Builder cartoon on it, since the kids begging me to have it. Hahaha... it looks nice, though. Unfortunately, Sal got a fever that day. Sabar ek sayang... Papa, Iman Raziq and Iman Nuryasmin love you so so soooo much.

21st and 22nd February last week, we were quite busy at the Uni. We volunteered as student helpers for the International Research Workshop. We've met with so many researchers from all over Asia, and guess what, we've made a very good networking with them. 9 professors from 4 universities in Malaysia also attended the workshop. There were 3 Professors from UM, 2 from UiTM, 2 from UKM and 2 from USM. Well, they were really nice to us and gave very encouraging motivation on how to do good research. Thanks Prof. Especially to Prof Abu Bakar Sazaly, Prof Nik Meriam and Prof Nasrudin Abd Rahim from UM and also Prof Md Roslan Hashim from USM.

To all our friends out there, we really miss you and love you so much. Don't forget us since we never do. Ape agaknye kome buat agaknye... Farid tengah honeymoon la tu ek. Best la ko Farid...

Iman's best girl friend :-)

Elizabeth Zemlyanoy (we called her Lizzie), that's the name of the kid who will be staying at our house after school hours every day from 3pm to 6pm. She's from Turkmenistan (part of Russia a long time ago), and happened to be in the same class as Iman Raziq. What happen is, her mother Svetlana Brovko asking for help from us to look after Lizzie after school since she's working until 6pm. It sounds like a a good deal and what's more important is that Iman and Yasmin can now experience some good times with their new friend! They even know how to speak English now, since Lizzie can only speak in English or Russian. It is really a good experience to have a kid from Turkmenistan at our house, and to the fact that how we have to speaking London all the time.

Well, Iman Raziq really likes her. Maybe because she's cute, just like Yasmin though. I really don't mind since I also like Lizzie, ahaks... Go on Iman, be like your daddy when he was your age. Got so many girlfriends but will only pick one to be your wife one day. Thats my boy...

Iman's first day at school

Today's the first day Iman Raziq go to school. He was so excited since last night, susun semua uniform, stationaries and school bag for the big day. We were too surprised to say anything while witnessing him do all that by himself.. dah besar anak papa & mama nih ;-) Iman Nuryasmin was whining all the time, demanded to be sent to school together with her brother. Sorry Yasmin, this year you have to stay in the nursery. You're still a baby girl. They both went to bed quite late, around 11pm just to make sure everything was ready.

We arrived at school at 10am. It was so nice to be welcomely greeted by the school prefects and teachers. He was quickly assigned to a class full of international students. There are students who come from Greece, German, China and Indonesia. Btw, Iman got himself a Malaysian Chinese classmate who had just arrived from KL yesterday. His class teacher is called Ms. Robinson. She seems so nice, quite an active and cheerful person. The parents were not allowed to be in the school area during the school period, and so we leaved. As we walked our way out of the class, there was a mixed feeling of proud, sad and overjoyed as we looked at our Iman, happily playing with the toys in the classroom. Well, kindi is the year where students play and sing a lot.. and make friends too!

We went straight back home and watched the dvd entitled "Blades of Glory", as a mean to keep us occupied while waiting for Iman to finish his school for the day. Hahaha... the movie made us laugh for a while, and helped not to worry about Iman too much.

Around 3pm, we rushed to the school to get Iman. We looked over into the class and we couldn't see where Iman was. As if she understood whom we were looking for, his teacher told us that Iman was so tired until he fall aslept on the floor. Hahaha... I could figure where he got that from, ME! Listening to stories will always make me feel sleepy. Well Iman, starting from today onwards, you have to go to bed as early as 9pm, right after Maghrib. You're not going to sleep in the class any more young man ;-)

Nothing in progress

Salam;
There is nothing happening going on this week. Just keep doing our routine, go to school in the morning, leave our kids with Huari (sal's youngest brother), get back around 5pm, watching television or dvd's at night, and go to sleep as early as 10-11pm, and doing the same routine every single day onwards.

However, we managed to find ourselves couple of new interesting places such as Lakemba and Homebush. Well, Lakemba is one of the suburb in NSW where majority of the people are Lebanese. Its just like being sorrounded by Arabic people there. So easy to find tudung, jubah, Islamic books and all other Islamic stuffs. There is also so many Halal food here, but mostly Arabic cuisines. Tak boleh masyuk arr...

Then, there is the Direct Factory Outlet (a.k.a DFO) at Homebush. It is like a big hangar. Can find so many popular branded clothing outlets including David Lawrence, Ralph Laurens, Billabong, Quicksilver, Pumpkin Patch, Guess, Giodarno, to name a few.. The prices are also quite reasonable since they are actually coming directly from the factory. So, next time if I'm running out of shirts or shoes, I'll know where to go ;-)

No picture this time since there is nothing interesting scenery to take. And as usual, we really really really miss you guys out there. Love everybody :-)

Rindu TGV

Salam semua....

There is nothing much to say in this new post. It just that it has been a very long time since we had watch our movies in TGV Mines or KLCC. Back in Malaysia, going to the cinema is our weekly activities. Now, since the ticket costs us about AUD12.50 per person, it's such a waste. Mahal woooo... So jealous when Farid (my x-rumet cum best friend) said "best ooo tengok wayang semalam". Hampeh la lu mat. Nanti laaaa...

Yesterday, I received an email from one of my friends. He gave me a list of movies that will be out in 2008. Well, there are so many good movies that I really love to see but hey another option will do, which just wait until we can buy or rent it on DVD's. And hehe... sape-sape yang bermurah hati nak buang atau hadiah DVD, please don't hesitate to mail it to me okay. DVD's here is so expensive, cost about aud20++ per new movie or aud10++ for old movies.

To our friends out there, if you do have a picture together with me or Sal or even with our kids, kindly e-mail it to me. I would like to keep those picture for our memories. Thanks guys...

Salam semua. A big apologize for the late update. Been quite busy these two three weeks. This time, I’ve tried not to insert any more sad entry but what can I do, it is sad. Just this afternoon we went to the airport to send ibu Sal, angah (adik Sal) and achik (our adopted family member) who were leaving for Malaysia. Sekejap je rasanya...sunyi balik umah ni. Dah tade suara angah ngan achik dok jerit-jerit melayan kerenah si iman ngan yasmin, tade dah suara ibu tanye nak masak ape ari ni ek, long? to be frank, selama ibu kat sini for almost 3 weeks, Sal seemed to less care about these cooking things. But actually it's a good thing since we could enjoy the taste of ibu's cooking. Sekejap tadi masa aku bukak microwave tengok ade semangkuk lebihan sambal ikan bilis (lauk nasi lemak smlm) ibu masak masa aunty asfa datang umah. Sedihnye........menitis jugak la air mata ni. Bila lagi lepas ni aku nak merasa nasi lemak ibu?

Another thing that surely will make us so sad and miss a lot is when the time everybody sitting and loitering at the balcony outside our room. A lot of chatting, borak2, berasap, enjoy tgk bintang kat langit waktu mlm.... something that we've seldom done before. In fact pintu balcony tu kitorang mmg jarang sgt bukak since tak brp secure utk anak2 (grill balcony tu agak luas).

Dalam pada tu still grateful jugak la bila dpt bwk diorang jalan2 sekitar Sydney. Mmg tak dpt cover suma. But the most important thing is that we've brought them to almost every places in Sydney. Darling harbor, sydney opera house, paddys market, taronga zoo, gi tgk 3d kat imax, westfield, bondi junction, bondi beach, mandi laut kat coogee beach, la perouse, picnic kat centennial park, city.... kira orait la tu kan...sempat jugak kitorang memerah keringat si achik ngan angah sorting catalouge kat dlm garage..he he. Sepanjang diorang ade kat sini, kiranya kitorang pun cuti jugak la... research makin slow, alahaiiiiii........ ni baru nak mula balik, adushhhh! memang kena pulun abis nih, lagipun dah tahun baru kan, kena ade azam baru la.

Adik huari stay sini sampai awal bulan 3. Dia dijadualkan balik malaysia 3/3/2008. So lucky to have him here, at least we have someone in the house to talk to and good for Iman and Yasmin, at least they have somebody to play with. Tapi esok bila dia dah balik, tak tau la camane...what to do kan? Dtg sini niat nak belajar, jadi nak tak nak kena la kuatkan semangat no matter what the condition is.

One of azam tahun baru ni, aku dah buat plan nak balik Malaysia bulan 10 in this year. Tak kira la, aku akan usahakan jugak. Rindu sangat kat suma, family, kengkawan, fsktm, alamanda, klcc, midvalley, he he..aku berdoa sgt Allah murahkan rezeki kami kat sini dan semoga harapan nak balik Malaysia esok tercapai, insyaAllah.

Selamat hari raya Aidil Adha

Wednesday, 19^th December 2007 – Malaysian Muslims in Australia celebrated Eiduladha today. All Malaysian Muslims including some from the Arabic countries gathered as early as 7 O’clock in the morning at Malaysia Hall to perform the Takbir Raya and solat sunat Eiduladha. Right after that, we had some jamuan, which the main menu was nasi lemak, ha ha..typical Malaysians huh? Not as many attendees as Eidulfitri celebration but the scene was still quite happening with takbir raya and salam bersalaman.

We didn’t prepare much for this eiduladha but Sal did cook somethings, though. Nasi himpit, kuah lodeh (her specialty), sambal tumis sotong and daging dendeng goreng. But the truth story underneath that was she wanted to keep herself busy so that she didn’t have to think so much about how deeply she misses everyone back at home. Luckily, we had two special guests from Malaysia coming over today…DR MASITAH and her father! But not for long as they were actually heading to Adelaide in the afternoon. So, at least their presences added on some sweets to our eiduladha celebration this year.

We managed to visit a couple of friends’ houses and might be the best thing was we’ve been proudly parading our baju raya all day. Some Aussies who happened to walk passed by us looked at us as if we were wearing something very very weird, but some did give complement.. ha ha… didn’t care actually!

So Muslims in Malaysia will be celebrating Eiduladha tomorrow. We would like to wish everybody selamat hari raya aidiladha and enjoy the day to the fullest! See ya in the next entry…bubye!

Hari ni (12/12/07), genap 3 tahun Iman Nuryasmin dilahirkan. Syukur Alhamdulillah, kami dikurniakan Allah dengan anak gadis yang cantik dan sempurna sifat.

To our dearest baby girl,
maafkan mama and papa, for not be able to throw a big bash birthday celebration as always this time for you. But we still managed to get you a yummy birthday mud cake, though and we can see that you really liked it..good! And Yasmin, we are very sorry and regret so much as we didn't get you any birthday present like we always do this year. We just want you to know that, we will always pray for your success, well-being and your happiness!

This year celebration, there is no Atuk, Opah, Uncle or Aunty, or friends to join in together. There is only four of us, Papa, Mama, Abang Iman and you, Yasmin. Papa and Mama try so hard to make you happy here. We really hope you can remember this day forever, as how we have to live in hard a way in order to achieve what we want in our life. Almost all nights, we've been crying and thinking about all the families and friends back in Malaysia. So sad...Allahuakbar, harini tak jemu-jemu papa and mama cium Yasmin, our birthday girl.

Don't worry sayang, just bear this in mind...apa yang papa n mama buat, semuanya untuk yasmin and abg iman. You two are the most precious gift and we promise, we'll do anything to make you happy, always!

What a torturing week

This week... ayoyo... My supervisor (sv) seems to be the most hardworking human being on earth I've ever met! He expects me to come and see him almost everyday. Hari-hari kene bagi report ape progress. It is totally not cool and torturing! If I were to miss my presence at my workstation even only for a day, he will definitely email and ask me why...what the @#*&? Plus, he'll never miss to flood me in with piles and piles of research papers to read. Adushhhh! Aren't this insane? Is doing PhD this insane? Btw, my sv is actually the deputy dean of the School of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) in UNSW :-(.

The most happening thing for me is that I've just received my PC yesterday (Jumaat). A CSE PhD student will automatically be allocated with an amount of money from the school to buy PC or laptop. I was thinking about buying a laptop but my sv disagreed. He already knew that if I'm using a laptop, surely selalu hilang takdak kat school. Hohoho... Anyway, my PC seems to be the most advance and powerful machine among all the other PCs in CSE. The spec:

Right now, we are still waiting for the laptop ordered by Sal. laptop tu warna pink lagi;-) shipping from Penang gak...haiiii..rindunya kat tanahair...... Maybe by Monday dpt la kut....

One problem though, and a big one I think. The OS of my PC is Windows Vista Home Premium Edition, but my sv asked me to use Linux. And here, you have to configure your own PC. Hi again. there is nothing much to put in this latest post, since we are busy with the study. However, trying not to disappoint our blog reader out there, we try to put something at least so that everybody have something to read and see. Here is some of the latest update about me and my family. If you think this post is little bit boring, just send us yr comment. Trust me, yr comment will surely cheer us up a lot (at least we know that we aren't talking to ourselves)!

My wife Sal, she has already got a temporary pc to work on and a permanent workstation at NICTA. She's still waiting for the notebook though. The spec of the notebook is quite advance and its pink! About her research progress, well I think she is in good condition. Her supervisor helps her a lot. She knows what to do, what to read, and what to write. Imagine all that is done in just a month here...

For me, I'm still struggling to find a topic and area of research. I've been doing so much reading on the area of Parallel programming and multi-core processing, as well as the real-time scheduling, however at the end i've had to give up thinking about that since the area is beyond my capability...duh! Right now, after get consulted with my supervisor, he suggested me to read and try to get a problem on the area of "program analysis". Well, I only know that it is the program that analyze the behavior of the programming. So if somebody can help me with that, I'm so pleased to hear from you.

Our kids, we assume that they are always excited to be here. Both of us trying to give them everything so that they will always happy and enjoy living in such a different environment from what they've used to. Iman is looking forward to go to Kindy early next year. And so we are doing the best we can to prepare him for that matter...language, making friends.. and whats important, the school fees. AUD4500.00 per year is a lot of money since he will not be sponsored by anybody, except FAMA. However, whatever happens, we will make sure that they will experience the best education ever and will become somebody in the future, insyaAllah!

Hi again...

This time entry is going to be all about my research supervisors (sv). The first one is Prof. Ross Jeffery who is known as the manager of the project and is widely recognized researcher in empirical software engineering as the head of the ESE research group at NICTA, Australian Technology Park at Redfern. He is also a Professor at the School of Computer Science (CSE), UNSW.

The second one is actually my main sv and appear to be my favorite sv (see picture). His name is Dr. Paul Bannerman and currently an active researcher in business IT related management and Knowledge Management of course.

The third one is actually my co-sv, Dr. Mark Staples. All I can say is that I m fortunate to get to know them and to work with them..

Last Saturday (18/11/07) we were very lucky to have our very first guess, PM Hasan Selamat (Assoc. Prof) from UPM who is also my head of dept and happened to be my ex-sv during my master studies. What really touches us was that his willingness to visit us in Sydney when he was supposed to go straight to Melbourne to attend the APMC 2007 on 19th morning. Thank you very much, Prof! Your presence had cheered us up...especially my kids who had been calling him ATOK ;-) during his overnight stay at our place in Sydney.

"Place to stay and a car to ride"

After just a couple of days staying at Malaysia Hall, finally we managed to find a place to stay. The rent is quite expensive though, but to us it is still worth renting. So, to families and friends who are thinking about coming to Sydney, this is the place where we are staying, well for at least the first 6 months since the lease contract is only for that period of time. Come and join us, all of you are always welcomed!!!

Unit 7, Block 31, Doncaster Avenue, Kensington, NSW 2033, AUSTRALIA.

The rent has actually limits our expenses where eating outside is a preferably to be avoided ;-) But thats not a problem... Everybody knows Sal is a good cook... emmm yum yum yum!!!

After the end of this period, we are thinking about moving to other place that can offer cheaper rent such as in Eastlakes, Alexandria, Mascott or maybe Redfern. But it will all depends on the availability next year.

Ohh... we also managed to get ourselves a car. We bought it for a price of AUD3000. Its a Mazda 626 Estate Wagon with 7-seater. Easier for us to travel especially when family members or friends come to visit since according to the law here, seat belt is compulsory even for the back passenger. Now, traveling is not a problem for us.

The car is in good condition even though it was manufactured back in 1991. Who cares as long as it can drives us to wherever we want to...

Since we already have a "place to stay and a car to ride", there's no more excuse to delay the studying process!!!

Sydney: My first impression...

As soon as we step our feet at Sydney airport, we experienced windy and breezy climate. Just a couple of minutes after checking out our luggages Faizah (fellow from UPM), Kak Ruhaya, Abg Azlan (President of Malaysian Postgraduate Student Association, NSW (MyPSA)) and his wife Kak Zurin arrived to welcome us all to Sydney and drove us to the Sydney Malaysia Hall. We were lucky to be able to borrow Abg Din and Kak Khaz car since they weren't at Sydney at that time. The whole family went to celebrate Idul Fitri away at their home town in Malaysia. Many many thanks to everybody that have kindly lend their helps and spared their time assisting me and my family on our very first day in Sydney.

The Aussies are very friendly, but too straight forward, i guess. Not like we Malaysian, we kind of always has this "bunga-bunga" when we want to talk to someone or give remarks. One thing that I noticed, the people here really abide with the law and so well mannered at what they are doing. Things that you cannot see so often in Malaysia.

Even though my first impression about Australia is a thumb up, deep down in my heart, Malaysia is still the best country ever.

At this point, there are many things to be done. Looking for a house, car, seeing supervisor, finding a school for Iman Raziq (he's turning 5 years old next year and is required to enter school by this age), touring around UNSW... So many things to do and so many time to spend. Hopefully everything will be settled as soon as possible so that we can begin our studies with no worries!.

Happy and sad...

16th October 2007, the date my family and I got into the MAS airplane and flew to Sydney, Australia. We will spend around 4 years here doing our PhDs at the University of New South Wales. Happy and sad, deeply immersed down in our hearts.

Happy since finally, we'll get the chance to gain knowledge from outside Malaysia... to experience things that others won't... We've done our undergrad studies and Master level at UPM, guess now is our time to see beyond Malaysia.

Sad because we have to leave our family back in Malaysia for four years. Sad because we have to leave our friends back in UPM, especially Farid, Azri, Azlan, ET, Noris, Zaihisma... Sad because we know that there will be no Hari Raya celebration like what we used to have in Malaysia... Only God knows how much we're going to miss all that.
